My research topic was to do with education and the increasing push for technology to be integrated with education. This can be done with blended learning, which is a mixture of online virtual teaching as well as face to face more traditional chalk and talk teaching.

  • In-person classroom activities facilitated by a trained educator.
  • Online learning materials, often including pre-recorded lectures given by that same instructor.
  • Structured independent study time guided by the material in the lectures and skills developed during the classroom experience.

I spoke to Dave Curran a 2nd year Journalism Lecturer at Collaiste Dhillaigh, who explained the importance of getting this mix right. he likened it to a recipe and that a balance needed to be struck between online availability and the face to face interaction that a class can offer.

We went on to speak about blooms taxonomy, where Dave explained in simple and understandable terms the basic tenants of a taxonomy and how it relates and its relevance to our own course and teaching in general. He also spoke about how it changed his understanding of teaching and indeed his style and method of teaching.

In closing we spoke about why what makes Dave an effective teacher

and why he feels people learn the best. he had a quote from a football manager but upon researching it further I was able to find out the origin of the quotation. It was from Theodore Roosevelt  “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”.
