Future of Technology and Education 

A Summary of research you plan to undertake and how this is unique to your specialism

I plan to look at the future of education and how technology will influence it. I will look at the more traditional approaches of chalk and talk to the more advanced approach of blended learning and the virtual classroom.

Primary research

I hope to get to speak with a specialist in the area of educational psychology. I have identified Selina Mc Coy Associate Research Professor in Social Research and joint research area coordinator for education at the ESRI and Adjunct Professor at Trinity College Dublin. https://www.esri.ie/people/selina-mccoy 

I would also like to speak to educators that are in the field and working today in classroom to understand what techniques they use and how they see the future of education as it relates to technology. The IT specialist at my college is attending a conference and I have organised to meet with him to ask him some questions surrounding technology and education and different future innovations.

Secondary research

The secondary research I will be looking at will include the types of teaching paradigms like blooms taxonomy. I will also be looking at a YouTube series on how people teach in prisons and how they have returned to a more traditional style with great success. I will also speak about the captive nature of this audience and how this may not translate to people who are not incarcerated.

This is unique to my specialism in that i am attending a college so I would have access to both teachers working in the field as well as students attending courses in the college.

Compare and contrast what your doing to news

The news would be far more objective and would center around stories that have all the quantifiable verifiable facts. It would be more of the who, what and where. As opposed to the feature that I am writing would be more on the why and how of the issues. My feature would be people focused and issue driven. it would feature people in the foreground.

Time constraint so that you can ask People questions and news would have a time limit for it to be considered news

you must also identify & evaluate the needs of your intended audiences. 

specialist and non specialist

The specialists in this field would find this interesting in that the teachers would be interested in the subject, because they would have a direct application of the techniques and teaching styles and the types of students there tend to be in class and how to teach to them.

The non specialist the casuals the students would be interested in the techniques to more fully understand what the best methods to learn and understand different subjects.

So the two types of people that would be interested would be the teachers the specialists and the students the non specialists. included in the non specialist would be parents trying to teach their children.

adv and dis adv of a podcast.

The obvious advantage of a podcast is that its cheap and easy to create. it possible now for individuals to create and grow an organic viral online presence. It has meant the increase democratisation of social media platforms.

Some would and have argued that the left leaning social media platforms have stifled this organic viral growth.  With the shadow banning and outright banning of certain voices on their platform. Podcast have allowed for the creation of cottage industries centered around long and short form platforms. the creation of podcast merchandise has allowed these creators to monetise their show and has seen an increase in production value. The introduction of podcast sponsorship has further meant the growth of podcasts and podcasting.

Another advantage podcast’s and podcasting has over the likes of TV or radio is the fact that they are so highly quantifiable. You can much more easily measure who is listening, the data analytics on YouTube clips for example allows you to see who watched what parts of your video and for how long and you can see what parts they forwarded through.

the disadvantages of podcasting are that they are ubiquitous at this point the market in saturated. Everybody and their sister has a podcast nowadays, more than that the platforms that they are on are increasingly being regulated. This has resulted in what has been called now a YouTube add-pocalypse in which many YouTube creators have seen their content demonitised and stricter rules now being enforced regarding copyrighted materials online.

The shadowbanning and outright banning of conservative voices on these platforms is another disadvantage for podcasters.

You must also identify trends in the format that you may try to embed in your content. 

The format is that of a podcast, however in order to entice them in to actually watching or listening to my more longer form podcast i will need to have a sizzler real similar to that of Steven Crowder.

So if we look at the structure here you can see that the 1st 30 seconds is perfect for all of the social media platforms. Its short its snappy its to the point and it pulls the audience member in to one of the highlights to the how this is done through the use of black and white grey scale as well as what is coming up.

another trend is to make it subtitled because it is known that the majority of people who use these apps view this content on a phone and they do so in a place that does not permit them the use of sound. and so the use of subtitles is a trend in this area that could and most often should be utilized by people looking to entice people in to their longer form content.

Monitisation of this content is another trend that people use whether its through straight up advertising or in a more roundabout way through the use of patreon sights or crowd funding

A trend for the future would be the in app setting that is available on Netflix now that allows you to have two applications open simultaneously. This innovation would make a huge difference for an app like YouTube. In that it would allow you to browse Facebook Instagram or twitter while listening and watching a YouTube clip. this dual functionality would result in more people being able to use more applications at the same time and obviously this would be the goal of social media companies.
