Brief synopsis of what my piece is about:
My story is about the Death of the written word to do this I’m going to go back to where and how we started to communicate from basic grunts to language and the role that communication plays in how we co-operate.
Moving on to books words the printing press Shakespeare up to the internet in 94 smartphones in 2007 all the way up to today with the culture wars internet culture meme’s trolling and how the technology has dehumanisation communication and detailing what gets lost in the translation of human communication with the advancement of technology.
Inform
How does your piece inform the public?
What is the value of the information?
I want to inform people of the dangers of this modern culture and how communication. How it dehumanises us and what we lose as a society and as a culture because of this.
I want to explain where we came from and why we got to where we are today. I want to outline the implications of how, why and what we came from. Where we are now, how technology and social media have shaped and influenced the way in which we communicate. I hope to draw parallels with books like 1984 and other dystopian futures. To try to warn against the rising of the tide.
Educate
Who does the information benefit?
Who does it impact?
What are the long term implications?
In order to educate people I will hook them in with the mental health stats released since the advent of the smart phone and show how there has been a stark increase in these figures since then. suicide self harm etc. compare boys and girls and the differences and danger oi both different but equally important.
I will contract this with 20/40 years ago and then go further back to explain how our brains evolved and how they work so as to more effectively deal with the current climate. things like meditation mindfulness but also regarding time management as well as how to combat being addicted to you phone or your games and show statistics how unhealthy and dysfunctional this can be if left unattended I will look for extreme examples here so as to shock them into paying attention.
Entertain
What are the element to use as a hook for potential readers to get them engaged?
I aim to entertain the reader by linking the very old with the current. I will try to bring in modern examples of the types of things I am speaking about I found that when a writer does this this it allows me to more fully grasp the concepts being explored. It fleshes it out for me and explains it in a way I can understand
So for example where did meme’s come from who invented the term and what were the ancient equivalent. The same with trolling and fake news. I feel that teaching people new things in an old way or old things in a new way can, if done correctly be very entertaining
I also received some notes from my class mate that explained that I should try to bring more balance to the piece by quoting some of the benefits. While I will try to take this on board It will not be then main focus of my piece because I feel it is important to concentrate on the precipice of a cliff more so than the view that this position affords. There is a danger of being too negative so I must guard against this. To try to keep it positive and hopeful for the reader.
Below are some pictures of my class notes that are relevant and related to the above text and are a record of my work on this blog.

Einstein quotes for inspiration as per sheilas recommendation.
“Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth.”
“Nature shows us only the tail of the lion. But there is no doubt in my mind that the lion belongs with it even if he cannot reveal himself to the eye all at once because of his huge dimension.”
“I am by heritage a Jew, by citizenship a Swiss, and by makeup a human being, and only a human being, without any special attachment to any state or national entity whatsoever.”
“As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality.”
“As a human being, one has been endowed with just enough intelligence to be able to see clearly how utterly inadequate that intelligence is when confronted with what exists.”
“When a man sits with a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute. But let him sit on a hot stove for a minute — and it’s longer than any hour. That’s relativity.”
“It is true that my parents were worried because I began to speak fairly late, so that they even consulted a doctor. I can’t say how old I was — but surely not less than three.”
“Common sense is nothing more than a deposit of prejudices laid down in the mind before you reach eighteen.”
“If A is a success in life, then A equals X plus Y plus Z. Work is X; Y is play, and Z is keeping your mouth shut.”
“Nationalism is an infantile sickness. It is the measles of the human race.”
“The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are dimmed.”
“My passionate sense of social justice and social responsibility has always contrasted oddly with my pronounced lack of need for direct contact with other human beings and human communities. I am truly a ‘lone traveler’ and have never belonged to my country, my home, my friends, or even my immediate family, with my whole heart; in the face of all these ties, I have never lost a sense of distance and a need for solitude.”
“If I were to start taking care of my grooming, I would no longer be my own self.”
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”
“The ideals that have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth. Without the sense of kinship with men of like mind, without the occupation with the objective world, the eternally unattainable in the field of art and scientific endeavours, life would have seemed empty to me. The trite objects of human efforts – possessions, outward success, luxury – have always seemed to me contemptible.”
“The aim [of education] must be the training of independently acting and thinking individuals who, however, see in the service to the community their highest life problem.”
“Nothing truly valuable arises from ambition or from a mere sense of duty; it stems rather from love and devotion towards men and towards objective things.”
“Most teachers waste their time by asking questions that are intended to discover what a pupil does not know, whereas the true art of questioning is to discover what the pupil does know or is capable of knowing.”
“I very rarely think in words at all. A thought comes, and I may try to express in words afterwards.”
“A happy man is too satisfied with the present to dwell too much on the future.
“The important thing is to not stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.”
“The state of mind which enables a man to do work of this kind… is akin to that of the religious worshipper or the lover; the daily effort comes from no deliberate intention or program, but straight from the heart.”
“The ordinary adult never gives a thought to space-time problems… I, on the contrary, developed so slowly that I did not begin to wonder about space and time until I was an adult. I then delved more deeply into the problem than any other adult or child would have done.”
