In our first session we were asked to pick our topic, I had like I always do too many ideas here are just a few.

The target demographic for the piece is 18-25 years old’s and we have been asked to inform, educate and entertain them.

 

Gym RippOFF Story

The first idea i had was about a gym I had worked in, in the past it was about how they would rip off the customers and how they would inflate a fictitious joining on fee to the tune of €500. In some cases taking people for €1500 for just one years membership of the gym. The difficulty I ran into was that i could not get any of the sales team to go on record about the story. They also did not fully agree that it was lying or ripping people off. Being that i liked and respected the people that i was asking I was not entirely comfortable going forward with the piece.

Fuel Card “Let the Buyer BEWARE”

The second story that I was considering writing about was that of a fuel car company which I had previous worked with. The story here was again about how they ripped people off. They would sell you on a really competitive fuel price at least 1 cent under the national average and at times up 9 or ten cent under. However by the time the people got their card the price would be less competitive and then after the first couple of weeks it would start to go up, and the algorithm would increase it by a cent every week unless you as a customer changed your purchasing habits. i know of one case where a company was on a 29 cent margin which equated to them being overcharged to the tune of 18k a month at the volumes they were consuming. However again I could not get anyone to go on the record and being that some of the people i know still worked for this company i did not want to put their livelihoods at risk just so i could pass a class in college.

Is Peodaphilia a Legitimate Sexual Orientation

I also wanted to potentially write about Michel Foucault, Judith Butler, Diana Fuss
and Eve Sedgwick who developed a thing called queer theory and who advocated for the lowering of the sexual age of consent and who stipulated that we should no longer stigmatise or maligned the concept of boy love. Yes you heard me correctly they are arguing for the legitimisation of paedophilia as a sexual orientation. I opted not to go into that topic because it makes me feel uncomfortable and if people wont go on the record about sales rip offs they certainly wont about the legitimisation or the proposed legitimisation of paedophilia as a sexual orientation.

The rise of the machines and the death of the spoken word. 

I ended up going forward on the story about the rise of the machines and the death of the spoken word. I settled on this topic because it was the easiest one to write about in that I was interested in the story and also it was safe enough to get people to go on the record about it.
